Kazuya Mishima was first born of Heihachi Mishima, a vicious and powerful leader of the world's top weapons manufacturing company known as the Mishima Zaibatsu. Through its syndicate of the Mishima Financial Empire, the mercenary group known as Tekken Force, and Mishima Industries, the Mishima Zaibatsu was lauded for its conglomerate control of the world's artillery forces, aiming to be the number one supplier of arms to all the nations and subsequently bow those nations to its power.

From the day he could walk Kazuya was forced into rigorous training with his father and grandfather Jinpachi in the Mishima style Karate. It was then at the tender age of 5, Heihachi sought to prove Kazuya's worth in taking the company as its sole heir. To do that, Kazuya was to know no fear. In a match that would forever change the once shy and tender boy, Heihachi beat Kazuya within an inch of his young life and threw his body off a cliff and into a ravine.

It was then as the child's body drained of life that a dark power awakened inside him and drew the boy up from his bloodied grave. A curse known as The Devil Gene, flowed in his veins and bid the boy to climb up the very mountain he was thrown from to meet his father with only vengeance in mind. Kazuya was driven to mold his body into a destructive force that could one day overpower his father and kill him. During his youth, Heihachi adopted 12-year-old Lee Chaolan into their family as motivation for Kazuya. Heihachi pit the two boys against one another till they forged a fierce rivalry, both determined to take the Mishima legacy from Heihachi's hands.

The day they would get such a chance came when Kazuya turned 26 and Heihachi announced a tournament known as The King of Iron Fist. Competitors from across the globe would meet to fight one another for a chance to dethrone Heihachi and become supreme leader of his company. Kazuya destroyed the competition, massacring his adoptive brother till the ring was so bloody the fight needed to be stopped prematurely. Heihachi fell prey to Kazuya's ruthless determination and was defeated, winning Kazuya the tournament. As a reward unto himself, he took Heihachi's body and tossed it off the very same cliff he was flung from when he was a child.

With the Zaibatsu in his hands, Kazuya took Heihachi's violent rein to a peerless level, cruelly reducing company competition to nothing by any means necessary. Be it outright assassination, extortion, blackmail, kidnapping, or poaching, nothing contended with Kazuya's quest for total global domination. Kazuya brought the world to its knees, but his reign was a transient one. As Heihachi had not been killed as he so thought. His hatred for his own father became his harmatia, for it fueled the devil's blood within him and drove him mad for control over his own body. During this inner onslaught, Kazuya met a mysterious woman known as Jun Kazama, to whom he lied down with under unknown circumstances. Throughout this a being encompassing all that was good left in Kazuya, known solely as 'Angel' fought back against the 'Devil' over who would reign Kazuya's soul. However that being of light found itself defeated when Heihachi took advantage of Kazuya's war within himself and crushed him thoroughly in the Second Iron Fist Tournament's last round.

As payback and to destroy his corrupted son once and for all, Heihachi threw Kazuya's body into the mouth of a volcano where he burned alive and died.

Kazuya's body was later recovered by a company known as G-corporation, a biotech firm making revolutionary advances in the field of biogenetics research. They were known as the Mishima Zaibatsu's one and only standing rival in the corporate world. In order to better understand Kazuya's godlike power, they revived him and in exchange for genetically enhancing his abilities, he allowed himself to be experimented on for 20 years. For those two decades Kazuya slipped in and out of consciousness whilst his body grew stronger and more stable. Slowly he was gaining more and more control of the Devil Gene till Heihachi became aware of a rumor that Kazuya was alive and raided the laboratory Kazuya was held at.

Vowing to take back all that was stolen from him, Kazuya obliterated Heihachi's Tekken Forces and willingly allowed himself to be lured into the Fourth Iron Fist Tournament. It was during this tournament that Kazuya learned that that mysterious meeting with Jun Kazama had brought forth a child. Jin Kazama. The young man unbeknownst to Kazuya had been bent on destroying the Mishima bloodline as with Kazuya's death, half of the Devil Gene's power had left Kazuya and awakened itself in Jin. Determined to take back his other half and gain full control of the Devil, Kazuya pursued Jin throughout the tournament, only to find him captive by Heihachi in the temple of Honmaru.

Kazuya had no love for the young man who was most certainly his son, seeking only to take back what was rightfully his. Upon blasting Heihachi away with a psionic force and approaching Jin's captured form, Kazuya's consciousness slipped away and the Devil for the first time took full control of Kazuya's body. Longing for its other half it reached out to pull its remaining power from Jin's body, only to find that the Kazama blood within him protected him from the Devil's full influence. In its confusion, Kazuya thrust himself to the forefront of his mind and took the Devil by its reigns, subverting its power fully and completely. Now in total control of his body and the Devil's power, he goaded Jin to rise and fight him.

Jin proved a overwhelming force and knocked both Kazuya and Heihachi unconscious and flew away into the night sky as a pair of black wings sprung from his back. Hours later Heihachi and Kazuya awoke to an ambush by G-Corporation's robot JACK squad. Betrayed by the very people he allowed to experiment on him, Kazuya briefly teamed up with his father to take out the assault. But seizing the opportunity to let his father get blown to smithereens he abandoned Heihachi to the robots fire-power and took off in the Devil's form as Honmaru was razed to the ground.

Headlines across the world reported of Heihachi's death, but with no one at the helm of the Zaibatsu an unknown entity announced the King of Iron Fist Tournament Five. Kazuya, determined to find out who was behind it, entered to crush them, take the Zaibatsu once again, and hopefully go head-to-head with his son Jin again. As it turned out, with the destruction of Honmaru, a restless spirit was awakened. Nearly fifty years prior, Heihachi preformed a coup d'etat on his own father Jinpachi in order to gain control of the Zaibatsu from him. Jinpachi was a strong and benevolent man whom Kazuya admired and loved. But sensing the weakness Jinpachi instilled in Kazuya, Heihachi locked the man in the basement of Honmaru on the Mishima Estate where he eventually starved to death.

Jinpachi's soul became corrupt by an unknown dark force that rose him from his grave, allowing him to take control of the Zaibatsu. This mysterious happening was easily uncovered by Kazuya early on in the tournament, as he knew what slept beneath Honmaru and blamed himself for Jinpachi's death all those years ago. Had he only been stronger his grandfather would have still been alive. Heihachi had taken so much from him. He blamed him for the death of his mother, knew that he had killed Jinpachi, destroyed his partnership with his adoptive brother, and sent him to an early grave at the bottom of a volcano. His reprieve that the man was finally dead was unfortunately a short one. For it seemed that Hell itself could not contain the tenacious soul that was Heihachi Mishima.

Near the final rounds of the tournament, Heihachi appeared before Kazuya and accused him of sending G-Corps' JACKs to kill him. Finding such a notion absurd he only shrugged off his father's inane babbling and laid him flat again. Defeated but not dead, Kazuya stepped over his father's body to face Jinpachi whom he found possessed by an evil force he wished to covet for himself. Seeing his grandfather for the first time since he was a child he was filled with warm pleasant memories, an actual humane smile curving his lips. The outcome of the last round remained a mystery, though it was confirmed that Jinpachi's soul was laid to rest and that Jin Kazama stole the mantle of the Zaibatsu amongst the family quarrel of father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Determined then to pay back G-Corps' betrayal of him, Kazuya murdered its top officials and ruled the corporation from the shadows. All the while Jin, with the Zaibatsu in his control, was amassing an army to subvert the world to his command. Appalled that anyone could rule the world but himself, Kazuya pitted the forces of G-Corp against Jin's Zaibatsu and was hailed as a hero to the nations. A bounty was set on Jin's head, dead or alive, and the world's fighters came out in full force to claim the prize. As if in retaliation, Jin announced the King of Iron Fist Tournament Six to take out his father and any opposing forces in one blow. The end resulted in Jin's head clutched in Kazuya's hand, whom he lifted up before his own men and declared himself rightful heir of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

On a silver platter the world would now be his for the taking.

_ABILITIES: Kazuya is proficient acolyte in the advanced form of Mishima-ryu Karate (based on Shotokan karate). His punches and kicks are a terrifying force that can shatter flesh, bones, and solid stone alike. Along with his mastery of dark ki energy, known ominously as his "Electric Wind Godfist", his strikes are coupled by volts of pure lightning which he uses to stun and burn up his opponents.

To add another layer to his own personal power, within his veins flows the blood of the Devil, a catastrophic power that enhances his strength to superhuman levels, capable of demolishing buildings and turning mountains to mere rubble. This Devil's blood also allows him to turn into a full-fledged demon, complete with a massive wing-span and a third eye, which upon opening releases a beam of energy ten times hotter than the sun. Using this ability takes a toll on his human body and it's only in last-ditch effort does he call upon its full destructive power, known as "Rage Art".

The Devil's power also provides him with telekinetic and psionic abilities. Such as the power to blast opponents away with a psychic shockwave. Also as he did with Jin Kazama at the end of Tekken 4, he can project himself into the minds of others to torment, suggest, and manipulate the mind in order to coax the victim to do his bidding. This seems to only prove effective on people with already "weak minds".

With only half of the Devil's power residing in him, Kazuya is on the constant hunt for preternatural or 'dark' power to fill the void in his soul. He can, upon rendering an opponent unconscious, absorb their power and add it to his own. In all his endings between Tekken 4, Tekken Tag, Tekken Tag 2, Tekken 5, and 6, he has been observed stealing the power of Jin, Jinpachi, and the uncanny being known as Unknown to make up for the loss inside him.

Besides his physical prowess, he's a cunning businessmen, with all the ruthless clandestine of a devious yakuza boss. To seize power in any facet by any means is his ultimate desire.

_PERSONALITY:

"It's the fate of our family to fight and betray each other. The Curse of The Mishima Bloodline."

Monsters are not born, they are made.

Like a red-hot knife in the dark, Kazuya Mishima is known to the world as a cold-blooded leader to whatever faction comes within his lethal grasp.

Due to the years of controlling, systematic, and tyrannical abuse Kazuya's father Heihachi imposed on him, he became a force to be reckoned with. Terse, haughty, and with a thirst for power that is never quenched, Kazuya's adherence to the laws his father laid down before him paved a path of self-destruction as well as inevitably an immoral standpoint that makes him act without conscience. While he was once initially considered a protagonist and wanted to bring justice to the Mishima Zaibatsu after his father's supposed death in Tekken 2, and right Heihachi's wrongs, he inevitably became what he hated most.

Like the old adage, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree", Kazuya repeated the cycle of corruptness and turned into something even more evil and ruthless. He did not bat an eye about hiring assassins to eliminate his critics or rivals (such as the father of Eddy Gordo) or even murdering them himself such as when he eliminated the leaders of G-Corporation when they betrayed him in order to take over the company himself. He even attempted to extort money from several businesses and organizations, performed kidnappings (like that of Dr. Bosconovitch in order to force him to make biological weapons for him), blackmailed, and even smuggled illegal and endangered species in order to conduct genetic experiments on them. So long as the end justifies the means, any cruel or biting tactic became fair game.

But contrary to what his enemies believe, that he is nothing but a savage man who only utilizes brute force, Kazuya can in fact, be quite cunning in his own way. Like tactile motions on a chess-board he can undermine his enemies with calculated subversion or throw tact to the wind and crush them all-together with a single blow from his lightning-bound fists.

Of course, the reason for his vile deeds was because he had allowed his hatred for Heihachi to consume him. This hatred in itself fuels not only his drive, but plays directly into the hands of the Devil Gene within him. Hatred, spite, loathing, anger, wrath, and war kindle the Devil's power, thus its shadowy influence on Kazuya is a constant whisper in his ear to trust only in the truth of his fists and continue fighting against his father and all that encompasses the Mishima till the world crumbles around them.

On his rocky foundation.

Once known as a coy, timid, but loving boy to his mother and grandfather, his affectionate nature was seen as weakness by his father and thus thoroughly snuffed out by decades of rigorous training and violent abuse. Kazuya knew nothing but his father's savage tyranny for all the years he lived beneath the Mishima house-hold. Standing before his father he could show no devotion or sentiment towards anything and should such a thing or person stumble Kazuya to sympathy, its presence was wiped from him entirely.

It began with the loss of his mother, to whom he dearly loved above all things. Next was his grandfather, who gently coddled him and taught him manners, peace, and prosperity through the Mishima Karate style. Then there was Lee Chaolan, given to him as if he were a pet rather than a brother, they forged a bond in secret to take down their father together, all the while being played like pawns against each other to severe that bond entirely. Finally, when all these things had been taken from him, even when the Zaibatsu was finally in his grasp, he was still deemed weak and thus Heihachi beat him in the Iron Fist Tournament 2 and took Kazuya's own life.

After Kazuya was defeated due to his internal struggle with the Devil, Heihachi took advantage of that weakness and threw him into the mouth of a volcano, and thus his death was a successful endeavor that lasted 20 years.

Consumed by this perennial and imperishable vengeance when he was finally awakened after that long slumber in G-Corporation's laboratory, Kazuya's one goal was nothing but to kill his own father, and to take back everything that was stolen from him. This desire drives all his motions in life, but that is not to say he is without ambitions besides vengeance. As mentioned before, Kazuya's motivation stems solely from his need to kill Heihachi, due to the fact that that was the only thing that drove him to survive, even after the first time he was thrown from the cliff at the tender age of five. His hatred has always been his impetus or modus operandi. However, he has shown that he still possesses bits and pieces of his humanity beneath the Darkness of the Devil which fetters and consumes him.

Although he is lauded as someone dark and evil at heart, Kazuya is really just someone who has been abused to the point where power is the only thing that matters. Emotions don't matter. Love doesn't matter. Because he's never been shown that he could function reasonably in a world where he showed "weakness". He's been taught from a young age that emotions and sympathies are fatal human flaws. It's literally been pounded out of him, which is not to say that he's incapable of being "lenient", completely.

Within all that darkness there is a pinpoint of light.

His brusque moments of temperance have been shown to reveal themselves when certain situations bring up nostalgia for his childhood or when a person approaches him without fear. In the case of Jun Kazama, her peaceable nature without reviling for his demonic presence, had him mystified to the point that even the Devil within him bode him to take notice of her.

In Tekken 5, we then see how, beneath the veneer of the Devil, when he approaches Jinpachi in order to uncover the truth about him really being the orchestrator of the tournament and to fight him, that he recognizes him as "Jiji", or affectionately as his "grandfather". They almost share a tender moment where he's even respectful towards him, being the only person in Tekken to whom Kazuya ever bows reverently to. However, once he defeats him, the Devil's hunger overtakes him and subverts him enough that he strikes a lethal blow to Jinpachi's chest, in order to take the evil power that resides inside of his demon-infested spirit.

On present matters.

Skipping to the present, after so many decades of struggle and wrestling with his demons and now with total control over the Devil Gene itself, Kazuya displays a rather subdued air about himself. Fluid, sharp and dominating with his words, but often respectful when he meets the right challenger or if one approaches him with respect in kind, the man of nearly 50 is slow to anger and takes insult with a brush of his shoulder. He's an impenetrable steel wall of cunning and reason, choosing his battles wisely and never giving into impulsiveness as his opponents are so quick to leap to.

This is due in large part to his having to bide his time while he looks to gain a foothold and advantage over Jin, who before falling to Kazuya's grasp at the end of Tekken 6, currently held sway over 70% of the world's firepower with the Mishima Conglomerate at his disposal. Ruling G-Corporation from the shadows means he must be patient, and with his plans to undermine and overtake Jin, the world lauds him as a hero for wanting to rise against him. In truth he is the only man capable of doing so, being as he's had control over the Devil far longer than Jin, and knows its strength inside and out. Such patience and cunning is not to say he is without passion, far from it. Should an opponent prove to disrespect or undermine him in some way his wrath is as fiery and deadly as an active volcano.

With so much responsibility to uphold since very early in his career, he's taken a very serious approach to everything he encounters. Unlike his oftentimes ridiculous father, he doesn't have a very good sense of humor and tends to let jokes fly right over his head. Though that's not to say he's incapable of a good and deep maniacal laugh here and there, especially when his plans come to fruition, when conquering his foes, or in worst-case scenarios when he's experiencing a manic episode via the devil clawing at his mind.

Regarding his fortitude.

In the past he repeatedly said that he sold his soul to the Devil in order to possess the means necessary and the power within to survive, but then later on realized he didn't want the Devil to control him. He wanted to control the Devil. So he took back even his own body, from the Devil itself. This seemingly impossible endeavor goes to show that Kazuya, like his adoptive brother Lee Chaolan, is a survivor, and one who has suffered so much at the hands of his father, but who still hardens himself to the influence of the outside world enough that his strength is the only facet of his being that holds him together. His willpower and fortitude are almost supernatural themselves, aside from the demonic powers he possesses. Had he given up, even once, he would have been destroyed long ago when he was thrown off of that cliff by Heihachi.

Personal and private life.

He has class, but he's not elegant, as Lee describes him. He's shown to have refined tastes in clothing whilst in the public eye, never without a tailor-made suit or Italian leather boots. Where he lacks elegance is in the brutal and thinly veiled vulgar way he drapes himself; for each thread he wears he makes sure came from the skin of a powerful, if not rare animal. Nile Crocodile suits, snake-skin belts, tiger-furred collars, and leopard-skin vests, the more vicious the beast the more he wishes to clothe himself in their flesh. At home is a different matter, though, as his secret hobby is to collect sneakers, most especially limited edition varieties ( Giuseppe Zanotti ). Various alternate costumes, of a more "lax" fair, show him to be inclined for loose jeans and comfortable shirts, and on a more extreme side, he has an inclination for audacious Yakuza-type flare. Two quirks that display his more rebellious nature to Heihachi's strict traditional Japanese aesthetic he likely attempted to foist upon Kazuya, but he thoroughly rejected in his private life. He's noted to take this rejection so far that he renounces his Japanese nationality completely.

In addition on his obsession for dead animals, Kazuya also has a hatred for dogs especially, as the demonic power that resides within him causes animals, but dogs especially, to go wild and bark endlessly at him.

In conclusion.

In the end, he, like the rest of the Mishima clan, are drawn into the curse of the Mishima bloodline, which is, in effect, the overwhelming drive Kazuya, Heihachi, Lars, and Jin all have to fight, to kill, and to struggle with one another for power. Their family dynamic has always been overwhelmingly to survive, to thrive, and to dominate or conquer, no matter the situation and no matter the cost. It is such a brutal and overwhelming curse that it draws the whole world into a war, and eventually destroys many lives over the course of several life times. This is why Kazuya is such the brutal, arrogant, and even tyrannical man that he is, and why, he'll stop at nothing to destroy Heihachi's influence over him. Sadly, this fate appears predestined, and it's as if he can never break himself completely free from it.
